We are getting great weather now and our gardens are growing like crazy. There is so much yard work to do, its hard to keep at the quilting sometimes. My tulips are starting to open now and are sporadic in places. We have problems with the chipmunks and squirrels here and its a battle every fall to see how many tulip bulbs can be spared. I guess I won out on some of them. Monday morning and I look at Carole's quilt called " Trip Around the World" and I think how it would be a fun thing to do,but then I think it would take me away from my sewing machines for too long. I know, I know, life is too short but you have to choose the things you like to do the best and I guess that's sewing for now.This quilt is called trip Around the World" and is 87x97. We have quilted a 10" pattern on it called "Falling Leaves". It gives it a nice swirling pattern as you can see by the backing in the picture below. This is a lovely soft quilt with Hobbs 80/20 batting in it. Carol now has a lovely quilted quilt for her bed. 

 May 2, 2013 Thursday Wow!

 We are already into May, my favorite time of year. I have been running between my garden and quilting all week . They say that gardening and quilting go hand in hand. Is that true with you.? I love the colors of all the flowers and its like building a quilt only outdoors! The heading of our page today shows a few of my daffodils and forsythia that are in bloom. My husband Eugene loves to use his camera and enjoys taking pictures of my garden as it progresses through the season. So you see you will be able to enjoy both our quilting projects and my garden through the whole season. I hope you will like it! Please, drop me a line and let me know. Todays quilt is so much fun and Jeannie-Kay always has fun making these. She tells me she may use  it for a picnic tablecloth. it is pieced with beautiful fruits and vegetables, and looks yummy.

This quilt is 61x61 and is quilted with strawberries all over.

 You will see the strawberry pattern in the picture below. What a fun quilt!

Jelly Roll Quilt

We have just come through the most beautiful spring weekend and the gardens are starting to come alive. The Spring Dauphinee is always my first spring flower along with my lovely crocuses. I always love to take pictures of them first thing because it gives you such renewed  strength and promise. The spring quilt shows are all booked now and you can visit each one with thoughts about your next project.

  Today is Monday and I would like to show you the jeans quilt we did for Gisele. Everyone seems to have a supply of old jeans that they never seem to know what to do with . I thought this was a good idea to cut them into strips and sew them like a jellyroll. The colors are very soft together. This quilt is 71x78  and has a very light batting in it. The pattern quilted on it is Geometric at 12"'. This makes a great quilt for the boy in your life.

May the Force be with you! My grandsons really love Star Wars. This is Nathan sitting on his bed with his peronnalized Star Wars quilt. He just had to include his light sabres to make it it all come real. Both my grandsons love their quilts because everything is about Star Wars and Lego. This is a twin size quilt and is quilted in the pattern of String of Stars. Enjoy the following pictures of this quilt and keep in mind how easy it is to whip these favorites up.

Paper Dolls

Remember paper dolls and all the fun we had with them!!

April 22,2013,   Monday.  This week is Grandmother's brag week. I have taken some pictures of my grand-daughters Paper Doll quilt to show you. This is four year old Nara and she loves to dress up. Nara is a   girly girl and enjoyed posing for her quilt picture. Here she is sitting on her bed, she loves pink and purple the best. This quilt was done with the paper doll fabric with all the coordinating fabrics. The quilting pattern is Cloud Nine Petite. This pattern works so well with children's quilts and you will notice I use it often.

Teddy seems to enjoy Nara's pillow. It's always fun to make matching pillow cases to go with your quilt. I know Nara loves hers.  On Thursday I will show you another grandmother brag quilt for that little boy in your heart.

I have a fondness for patchwork quilts. This quilt done by Natalie is a great example. It is 102x 110 and done in lovely greens. The quilting pattern on this quilt is called Simply Clematis which is a nice all over pantogram.

Another weekend, another snow storm....Believe it or not it is spring!!

This blog is designed to show quilts done on the longarm machine. I like to show my quilts, ones made by my customers and also sewing crafts of my own. It is nice to see other projects besides total quilting and today that is what I'll do.
Last weekend I visited the old family homestead in Nova Scotia. It is a Christmas Tree farm, flower and vegetable gardens , and orchards which are now managed by my brother. My parents are 92 and 95 and are now in a nursing home nearby. They still love to come back home for a visit.

When I stepped out of the car I was greeted by hundreds of singing spring birds. There were crackles, red-winged blackbirds, sparrows, robins and spring warblers not to mention the many winter birds still feeding there. Down in the orchard were pheasants feeding of the old apples from last fall. When I visited the farm at this time of year, two years previously, I was delighted to see that my Dad {then 93} had spent the winter days making bird houses in the basement. He was no longer able to get around in the deep snow so picked up a new hobby. On the back sloping wall outside the basement door was all his productivity drying in the sun. I grabbed my camera and took some pictures thinking all the while that I need to make a wall hanging, and that is how many great projects near and dear to you can materialize.

I show, here, my efforts from these photos that started with a piece of white cotton. I hand painted the sky and foreground. The birdhouses were appliqued on and the rest was thread painted using my Janome sewing machine. I enjoy thread painting and bringing things to life.

I made the picture with batting and backing so it is a true quilt but decided to frame it in the end. I hope you enjoy seeing my endeavors and please feel free to leave me comments.
