Remembrance Day 2013

Today is Remembrance Day, a day when we stop to remember those that lost their lives defending our country. This week,a lone cross, a lone wreath and a lone poppy marked the monument which stands in front of the Branch #4, Royal Canadian Legion in Fredericton . In a few hours, it will be adorned with hundreds of poppies and memorials as we pay our tribute to our fallen solders. Two WW II guns stand guard on either side of the monument. Take time to remember....

Yes, it is Remembrance Day, We must remember all those who fought for us. Our quilt, today, is adorned with the bright red colour we can relate to. Joan has made this wonderful Bargello quilt and she has worked hard with all the seams in this. This quilt is 73" x 85" and she has chosen the pattern "Geometric" for her quilt. This is a very showy quilt  and the red quilting thread brings it all together. Great job Joan!.

Huntin' Season

Hunting season is now underway in New Brunswick and the poor deer know exactly where to hang out. I looked out my bedroom window yesterday to see three young deer munching around my garden. Since the flowers are gone now, I don't mind them having a little bite of the green grass that's still left. The leaves are starting to get dry and crackly underfoot and you can hear every step the deer make. The quilt, that I have to show you today, has many leaves all over it. Look below and see this lovely number. 

This little number is 64" x 77" and is a "Jellyroll" quilt. A "jellyroll" is a pack of fabrics usually 2.5 inches wide cut in strips. The strips are usually colour coordinated so they will go nicely together. The quilt has been quilted with the pattern of " Lush Leaves" on it. You can see the leaf pattern nicely on this quilt but when you look at the back, you will see a gorgeous leaf fabric as well. This fabric looks like gold guild, and is beautiful. Clair has done a beautiful job on this quilt and it was a pleasure for us to quilt it. Bye til Monday, Gwenda

It's November!

It is November already and the weather has been beautiful. The cold is gradually coming and I'm glad all the yard work, I was planning to get done, is finished. Halloween is, now, behind us and now the getting ready of all the Christmas projects. I spent the last few days finishing up some of the U.F.O'S {UNFINISHED OBJECTS } from last year. I finished my Christmas table cloth and a tree skirt. I will show them as soon as I get them quilted. Are you working on Christmas gifts or just Christmas items now? After Remembrance Day, the decorating for Christmas will start and I will show you some things pertaining to Christmas.

Today's quilt is a small "I Spy", quilt made by Jane. "I spy" quilts are so much fun, and collecting all the fabrics is all part of it. This "I Spy" was quilted with an all over pattern on "Lush Leaves" at 8 inches. It goes well with the lovely, leafy Bali fabrics on the borders and backing. This grandchild will have fun with their quilt.

Halloween

This sure looks like a Halloween sky, and I almost can imagine a witch flying across the screen. Yes, today is Halloween and all the children are getting ready with their costumes to go from house to house. I sure miss those days and Oh to be a kid again. 

The decorations are up and waiting and its fun to see all the scary displays that people put out. My son had this big skeleton lit up in the corner of his house along with lit up spiders, zombies and skeletons. What fun their children were having.

There are lots of Halloween fabric out there for one to make some great projects out of. I found this striped fabric with lots of Halloween pictures on it. This fabric has been sitting around for a long time, so, out of the blue, I decided to do something with it. 

I am showing you this braid runner I decided to make for my kitchen table. It is really long and very colorful. You can see below as it starts to grow. 

I quilted it on the longarm using a variegated, King Tut thread in a orange and yellow color. The pattern is a roving pumpkin and vine pattern as you can see more clearly from the back. Go, Go, Go! Is it time to go? It seems that way when you see the Canada Goose beckoning to those in the water. Time to fly South!Follow me and away they go across the field. We are always on the go, and always getting ready for something. Could it be Halloween, Christmas or that new baby that is soon coming? Look below and you will see what Sue is getting ready for!

Maybe Sue is not getting ready for a new baby in her family, but perhaps, she is getting a little fellow his big boy quilt for winter. In any case, Sue has made this wonderful little boy quilt with Go, Go, Trucks border all around. It is 32" x 52" in size and it is stippled in the center panel. This quilt has a lovely soft , dotted Minki fabric on the back. There isn't any batting in this quilt so it will be soft and cuddly.
