Crimson Sky

May 15, 2013. Thursday

On his way down the TransCanada highway on Tuesday evening, Eugene had to stop the car and take these pictures. The sky was aglow as the sun was setting over the river valley. There was a start of a rainbow but it didn't produce the normal rainbow colours, just a crimson line in the sky. Some of nature's beauties.

We see color everywhere and Pats quilt is no exception. This pink and white Nine-patch quilt is a lovely example , It measures 74 x83 and is quilted in the pattern " Butterfly and Flowers".

You can see from the picture, of the back of this quilt, how the butterflys just flit around among the flowers. This is a very nice all over pattern.

Flower garden

May 13, 2013 Monday.

Today is Monday and we have just finished a rainy Mother's Day. The rain was so welcomed for our gardens and actually gave our families a great chance to catch up inside. The tulips are now in full bloom in the garden along with azaleas, bleeding heart and cherry blossoms. My! how I love spring. My first hummingbird has showed up at my feeder and like other years they always come for Mother's Day.

Follow below and I will show you the quilt for today. It is a very pretty one. This quilt is called Gramma's Garden. Very fitting to show you with my garden pictures, don't you think? The quilt is 90x108 and is quilted in the pattern called Simply Clematis. Carol has done a nice job on this beautiful spring quilt.

Baby, Baby

It is definitely spring, the new lambs and calves are in the fields alongside of their mothers. I have noticed a lot of new born baby announcements in the last couple of weeks.

Today I will show you a baby quilt done by Carol. This quilt has puppies appliqued on it and was done in the quilt pattern "Raining Cats and Dogs". The baby that receives this gift will love this colorful and playful quilt.

This quilt is actually a panel that I quilted up and use on this little child bed. The youngest grandchild still likes to climb on this bed with her story books.It has a series of bunnies on it. She pretends she is reading to them in her own little bed. The quilt itself has different size stippling on it and is very close which makes the quilt more of a coverlet than a soft quilt. Childrens panels can make up into fun little quilts for them.

Trip around the world

We are getting great weather now and our gardens are growing like crazy. There is so much yard work to do, its hard to keep at the quilting sometimes. My tulips are starting to open now and are sporadic in places. We have problems with the chipmunks and squirrels here and its a battle every fall to see how many tulip bulbs can be spared. I guess I won out on some of them. Monday morning and I look at Carole's quilt called " Trip Around the World" and I think how it would be a fun thing to do,but then I think it would take me away from my sewing machines for too long. I know, I know, life is too short but you have to choose the things you like to do the best and I guess that's sewing for now.This quilt is called trip Around the World" and is 87x97. We have quilted a 10" pattern on it called "Falling Leaves". It gives it a nice swirling pattern as you can see by the backing in the picture below. This is a lovely soft quilt with Hobbs 80/20 batting in it. Carol now has a lovely quilted quilt for her bed. 

 May 2, 2013 Thursday Wow!

 We are already into May, my favorite time of year. I have been running between my garden and quilting all week . They say that gardening and quilting go hand in hand. Is that true with you.? I love the colors of all the flowers and its like building a quilt only outdoors! The heading of our page today shows a few of my daffodils and forsythia that are in bloom. My husband Eugene loves to use his camera and enjoys taking pictures of my garden as it progresses through the season. So you see you will be able to enjoy both our quilting projects and my garden through the whole season. I hope you will like it! Please, drop me a line and let me know. Todays quilt is so much fun and Jeannie-Kay always has fun making these. She tells me she may use  it for a picnic tablecloth. it is pieced with beautiful fruits and vegetables, and looks yummy.

This quilt is 61x61 and is quilted with strawberries all over.

 You will see the strawberry pattern in the picture below. What a fun quilt!

Jelly Roll Quilt

We have just come through the most beautiful spring weekend and the gardens are starting to come alive. The Spring Dauphinee is always my first spring flower along with my lovely crocuses. I always love to take pictures of them first thing because it gives you such renewed  strength and promise. The spring quilt shows are all booked now and you can visit each one with thoughts about your next project.

  Today is Monday and I would like to show you the jeans quilt we did for Gisele. Everyone seems to have a supply of old jeans that they never seem to know what to do with . I thought this was a good idea to cut them into strips and sew them like a jellyroll. The colors are very soft together. This quilt is 71x78  and has a very light batting in it. The pattern quilted on it is Geometric at 12"'. This makes a great quilt for the boy in your life.
